Into California

Before heading out of Nevada, we were wondering what’s up with seagulls and US Coast Guard (@ Fallon) in the desert?  Aren’t they a little displaced?

We watched the land grow greener and greener as we moved through Nevada and into northern California. The hills approaching Susanville were boasting pinetrees and the ranches had grazing cattle and horses. More snow showed on the mountain tops.

For today we make it a bit of a shorter day of driving.  We stopped in Susanville for lunch and internet.  Time for stretching legs and getting fresh air and wet pant seats.  Seems like autumn because there are small leaves falling from the trees whenever a breeze blows by.

The playground only gets a passing nod. Instead, our kids roll down the damp knolls, blow dandelion fluff at each other, and Gaelyn attempts to hide from Mom and the camera while attempting soccer ball stunts.

A roll down the hill. That was one of my favourite childhood activities, and fortunately we had one in our front yard!

We venture more into the pine forests Anders has been anticipating since morning. It’s been a while since we camped amongst towering pines. It’s like arriving home.
