Churros

Dispensing churros. You can get sauces added, but we enjoy them hot with sugar on them. Plain and simple.

We discovered them at La Bufadora on the Baja last year and were excited to find them here on the mainland.  Unlike tamales that are made different regionally, these seem to be the same both here and there.

Churros were something we shared with Mom (grandma) and Aunt Jo when they were here since they don’t get them in either Canada or Ecuador.  I suggested that maybe Joanne starts a business selling them in Ecuador!

Squeeze them out of a huge dough pipe. Round and round you go.

Done cooking. Then they are snipped into approximately 5 inch sections, dipped in granulated sugar and stuffed into a paper bag so you can walk the streets and eat pure enjoyment!

This Melaque man worked the same street corner nightly by the town square.  He saw our large family coming and probably saw $$ as we ordered the Grande.  The second time we ordered Grande when Mom and Aunt Jo were with us he told us to wait, he was going to make some more for us!  Not that we needed the deep-fried food in the first place.  I am totally aware it is not classified as a superfood!  But we ate it and enjoyed it.

We’ll fast tomorrow!
